The teaching at the National Defence University is based on responsible, networked and effective competence, within which future officers are trained, keeping up with the times.
Cooperation with higher education institutions
The National Defence University is proud of its networked and constantly expanding collaboration with its higher education partners. The Finnish university partners are Aalto, LUT, Turku, Jyväskylä, Oulu and Vaasa. Metropolia and Laurea from universities of applied sciences. A practical example of partnerships is provided by multidisciplinary joint professorships at universities and cooperation between higher education institutions in areas such as research, which are constantly developed in anticipation of the future.
Among the international military education institutions, the partners of the National Defence University are St. Andrews University of the United States, Royal College of Defence Studies of the United Kingdom, Nato Defence College in Rome, French Special Military Academy of Saint-Cyr (École Spéciale Militaire de Saint-Cyr), Helmut Schmidt University of the German Armed Forces, Poland's War Studies University, Swedish Defence University and Baltic Defence College.
Responsible and international teaching
All teaching content at the NDU is compared to the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN Agenda 2030. Sustainable development is visible at all degree levels, in continuing education and also in international crisis management training.
In 2023, the National Defence University provided training courses to more than 1660 persons, of whom approximately 850 were on the national defence courses and approximately 815 on the courses of the Finnish Defence Forces International Centre, which operates as part of the NDU. In 2023, we reached actors from nearly 50 different countries.
