Measures by the National Defence University to prevent the spread of the coronavirus
To prevent the spread of the coronavirus, the National Defence University, part of the Finnish Defence Forces, prevents the entry into its premises of persons not serving the FDF or not studying at the NDU and instructs students and personnel to work from home.
The National Defence University wants to protect the working and studying environment and the health and well-being of the NDU community. Therefore, the following measures have been introduced. Exceptional arrangements are in effect until further notice.
Students and personnel (updated 10 September)
The personnel will work from home as much as possible.
Information involving any measures taken will be provided for personnel and students also via in-house channels.
Library (updated 2 April)
Persons other than personnel or students will not be received at the NDU Library until further notice.
Customers from outside the Defence Forces:
Civilian customers may renew their loans via the MPKK-Finna service, by email at [email protected] and by phone 0299 530177. Loans may be returned by mail on one’s own responsibility.
National Defence University students and personnel, and customers from other Defence Forces brigade-level units:
The information service, interlibrary services and information desk will provide distance services from 8.30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Friday. Customers are kindly requested to contact us mainly by email at [email protected] or by phone 0299 530177.
The availability of loan services has been restricted. The library delivers publications from its ground-floor collections only in the following cases:
- NDU students: Publications needed for working on final theses
- Publications indispensable for researchers at the NDU: publications are provided only to a limited extent and only when absolutely necessary, for example for being able to achieve a research article almost finished.
In cases meeting these criteria, requests for publications should be made by email at [email protected]. Publications requested by 3.30 p.m. will be delivered by 10 a.m. the following day by the self-check machines on the 1st floor of the Santahamina Building. The customers can fetch and check them out by themselves.
The library’s e-journals, e-books and databases are also available by remote connections (more information: MPKK LibGuides). The library information service is accessible by email at [email protected].
Visits (updated 17 March)
Dispersed work and visits are currently not allowed in National Defence University premises. Visits at the NDU have been cancelled until further notice.
The National Defence University adheres to the instructions issued by the Defence Forces and continues to follow the situation actively. Information will be provided in the event of further measures and changes to the instructions.
