Familiarisation

The National Defence University is located in a military area. You must apply for permission to enter the area.

Arrival

Visiting Santahamina requires that your name is on the visitors’ list.  Many parts of Santahamina-island are prohibited to visitors for safety and security reasons. Please carefully follow the maps and signs in the area.

Arrival by public transport

If you use public transportation in Helsinki, you should download the HSL app on your phone for tickets. Santahamina is located in Region B of Helsinki public transport. From Helsinki city center, take subway towards east and get off at Herttoniemi subway station. From Herttoniemi, take local bus n:o 86 (Santahamina).

• Bus number 86 drives to Santahamina from the Herttoniemi Metro Station.
• At the garrison gate the military police will conduct a check-up. Be prepared to show your passport. If there is a problem (the list with your name cannot be found etc.) please step out of the vehicle and contact your host, who will help solve the situation.
• When through the gate, hop off on the first stop. FNDU campus is a short walk away.

Arrival by car or charter bus

• please remember, that everyone’s name and all vehicle license plates must be on the visitors’ list, including the drivers’ and their vehicle(s)
• Pease discuss need for parking in advance
