In line with its vision, the National Defence University advances the overall security of the nation and the stability of society through its research and expertise in military sciences. 

The aim of the National Defence University is to develop as a respected, trusted and widely networked expert in military theory of the future, operating at the forefront of military sciences and the art of war and excelling through learning, research and leadership.

The pillars of societal interaction include key partnerships with other higher education institutions both in Finland and abroad and cooperation in international networks to deepen the resources available for research. 

The National Defence University also plays a key role in the provision of expertise to the media both in the traditional media as well as in online contents.

The 2023 impact report shows in concrete terms how the National Defence University has operated at the core of warfare from the perspective of teaching and research as well as responsibility and interaction.
