The National Defence University will organize the 10th Conference of the International Society of Military Sciences (ISMS) from 13 to 29 October 2020. The conference will be themed “Military Sciences vs. Open Sciences”.

The theme has the objective of guiding researchers to reflect on tensions existing between military sciences, open science and research.  The conference aims at introducing academic military scientific research horizontally and promoting international networking relating to the domain.

The deadline for submitting research papers to be presented at the conference closed on 15 September. Persons having proposed a paper will receive a notification regarding acceptance by 30 September 2020.

Online conference registration has been opened at www.mmg.fi/mpkk. It is also possible to participate without submitting a research paper. The conference fee is 50 €. Online registration is mandatory for all those who wish to participate.

The conference will be fully virtual with English as the working language. The conference will be divided into two phases: In Phase I, from 13 to 26 October 2020, the participants will get to acquaint themselves with their own working group’s papers at their own pace and comment on them in the conference online workspace.  Phase II of the conference from 27 to 29 October 2020 will consist of real-time group work and plenary presentations.

Additional information regarding academic matters will be provided by Senior Planning Coordinator Matti Muhli ([email protected]) and general arrangements by Lieutenant Colonel (ret.) Kari Sainio ([email protected]).
